Eliades Ochoa, one of the original members of the Grammy-winning Buena Vista Social Club, is considered one of the most renowned Cuban “soneros” of all time. A great defender of traditional Cuban music, Eliades hails from the mountains around Santiago de Cuba (the birthplace of Son Cubano).

Before the shows, RCR will offer a Cuban Dance Class from 7:10 to 7:55pm — live music starts at 8:00pm.

There will be TWO shows by Eliades Ochoa on Thursday, 5/15 AND Friday, 5/16.

RCR’s weekly Friday classes and Cuban Salsa Dance Party are at Mars Bar once a month, every 3rd Friday.

Beginners are welcome in all Level 1 classes, and we are now offering three separate classes at both 6:00pm and 7:15pm at Mars, just like we do at MNC. Here’s the schedule:

Update for May: Guajirón will play on the 4th Friday in May (usually they play at RCR on the 2nd Fridays).

On May 23rd, after our regular weekly classes on Fridays, Guajirón plays LIVE CUBAN MUSIC at our weekly dance party. Guajirón is an SF-based group that plays Cuban dance music, directed by longtime Bay Area dancer and RCR student Michael Terkowski.

RCR is dancing in the SF Carnaval Parade — we are #51 in the parade this year! Estimated start time is 11:30am at 24th and Bryant — parade goes west on 24th street, then turns north on Mission until 15th. We are looking for volunteers to help us on parade day — stay tuned for more info.

There are some great acts this year at the Carnaval Street Festival on both Saturday and Sunday.

After the parade and festival on Sunday, we are hosting an After-Carnaval Salsa Party at Il Pirata (2007 16th Street near Potrero) from 6:00 to 10:00pm. $10 cover — $5 for RCR Parade dancers and volunteers.
