Salsa Workout and Body Movement (All levels)
In this highly energetic class we explore some of the roots and relatives of Salsa in Rumba, Son, Mambo, Cha-cha-chá, Conga, Afro-Cuban folkloric dance and more! Through isolations we gain strength, flexibility and articulate expression throughout the entire body, beginning with the core. We warm up with basic salsa footwork and move on to explore more complex rhythmic variations, stylistic embellishments and related dance styles building towards completing the class with a dynamic and fun choreography.
SALSA AND RUEDA CARNAVAL REHEARSALS
We are offering TWO Carnaval Rehearsals every Sunday, beginning March 5th through the parade on May 28th. From 2:30 to 4:30pm is our primary rehearsal, open to Beginning and Intermediate level dancers, and then from 4:30 to 6:30pm we will have an Advanced-level workshop. Both groups will be dancing to the same music, but the choreography in the second rehearsal will be slightly more complex with more of our signature rhythmic accents, more partner changing, more challenging vueltas, and new, more intricate configurations and patterns of movement. All dancers should attend the 2:30pm Beginning/Intermediate rehearsal unless given prior permission to attend the 4:30pm Advanced rehearsal.
This year is Rueda Con Ritmo's 8th annual SF Carnaval parade contingent, and we are particularly excited this year because for the first time we will be dancing to the LIVE MUSIC of John Calloway and the SF State Afro-Cuban Ensemble.
BIG NEWS! Yuneidi Bejerano, the lead female dancer of Companía All Stars in Santiago de Cuba will be visiting San Francisco for the first three weeks of March, contributing Carnaval choreography and leading RCR Carnaval rehearsals and other special workshops.
Dancing in the SF Carnaval parade, being refreshed and invigorated by fresh air and sunlight, surrounded by friends, performing fun and energetic choreography, inspired and motivated by great music, is a profoundly joyful experience.
The overall theme for SF Carnaval this year is "El Corazón de San Pancho." The related theme for the 2017 Rueda Con Ritmo contingent will be "Mi Barrio es mi Corazón." After SF Carnaval, you will have the option to dance in Carnaval in Cuba (Havana and other cities) on the Rueda Con Ritmo Summer Cuba Dance Study Trip (August 12 - 26).
