RCR hosts a Cuban Dance Party every 1st Saturday of the month at Lake Merritt Dance in Oakland. In July Sidney will be offering the special Rueda workshop at 6:15pm.

We are offering three workshops this month — at 5:00pm, Ryan’s listening class will be devoted to the conga drum (tumbadora), some of the most common rhythms that it plays (e.g. marcha, guaguancó, pilón), and how these rhythms can inform your choices of how, and on which beat, to dance. At 6:15pm Sidney will offer “Rueda Con Estilo y Ritmo” —how to incorporate signature rueda con ritmo style and musicality into your dancing. Then at 7:30pm we offer a 1-on-1 social dancing Salsa-Casino class (two separate levels taught in different rooms simultaneously).

At all of our monthly parties we celebrate the birthdays of everyone born in that month. Contact us in advance if your birthday is in July and we’ll put you on the guest list for the party (workshops not included, see below).

LMD is a PERFECT venue for dancing, featuring a smooth vintage hardwood dance floor with ample space to dance. Here’s the full schedule for the night:

We offer all of our classes and events on a sliding scale to make them accessible to as many people as possible (we are professional artists so if you are able to pay the regular price it is much appreciated). There is absolutely no food or drink in the ballroom, including water — be sure to keep all food and drink (including water) in Hall 3, the Lounge, or the lobby.

Every 2nd Friday of the month, after our Friday night classes, Guajirón plays LIVE CUBAN MUSIC at our weekly dance party. Guajirón is an SF-based group that plays Cuban dance music, directed by longtime Bay Area dancer and RCR student Michael Terkowski.

Have you ever wondered about switching off between leading and following in the same song? Rueda con Ritmo is hosting two 1.5-hour workshops with Or Gadish on Sunday, July 13th at the Mission Neighborhood Centers in San Francisco:

1. Crash Course in Your Secondary Role (2:45-4:15p): Anyone that is at Level 3 or above in only ONE OF leading or following should take this class before taking the later switch class. This is also a great opportunity even if you can't attend the later switch class!

2. Switching Leading and Following in Casino Partnerwork and Rueda (4:30p-6:00p): This is open to all dancers who took the crash course, or are already comfortable with all the RCR Level 1 and Level 2 moves in BOTH leading and following.   

We love that there are already many in the community that regularly lead and follow, and we are excited to offer this workshop.

Casino/Cuban Salsa Technique Semi-Private Workshop Series -- limited spots available

Rueda con Ritmo's Or Gadish is going to be offering a special semi-private workshop series this August dedicated to Casino/Cuban Salsa technique. This is your opportunity to hone your technique (and unlearn some bad habits) in a semi-private setting.

The series will consist of 4x 1.5-hour workshops on Sundays that will build on each other, so you must attend all 4. To be able to dedicate time to each dancer, there will be a limit of 5 leaders and 5 followers in each session, but there will be two sessions, 2:45 to 4:15pm and 4:30 to 6:00pm. Dates are August 3rd, 10th, 17th, and 24th.

In this series, Or will help you take what you've learned in our Level 1, 2, and 3 classes to the next level and ensure your basic technique is set up for success in social dancing and with more complex moves. As such, students must have completed all of the Rueda con Ritmo Level 2 curriculum, and even have taken a few Level 3 classes.
