7:30pm Cuban Salsa and Rueda (Levels 1, 2, 3, & 4)
8:30pm Cuban Salsa and Rueda (Levels 1, 2, 3, & 4)
9:30pm Monthly Party (March 3rd, March 24th, April 14th, May 12th)
Every Friday night, we offer two hour-long Salsa and Rueda classes. At both hours, four instructors teach four different levels simultaneously – we offer Levels 1, 2, 3, and 4 all at once, now in TWO separate rooms. Beginners are welcome in any Level 1 class (offered at both 7:30pm and 8:30pm). Then once per month at 9:30pm we throw a Cuban Salsa Party.
We teach from our Expanded Curriculum (click to download), which enables you to advance at your own pace. You can come every week for two hours and pass through all four levels in just seven weeks. Or choose either one of the 7:30pm or 8:30pm classes and you can learn the same material in 14 weeks. Or just drop-in whenever you have a free night - check the Curriculum to see when the moves you need are being taught.
Friday night and Sunday classes are held at the beautiful ODC Dance Studio. Their staff is helpful and professional, and our dance room is enormous, with a great sound system, high ceilings, mirrors, and hardwood dance floor.
These classes have been taught weekly for more than ten years, making them one of the longest-running salsa classes in the Bay Area. They attract a very friendly, talented and diverse group of people, from all backgrounds and of all ages. Many people come without a partner. We hope you will come and be a part of this fun and supportive environment!
Your first class at the ODC is just $5! Drop-in is $14 per class, multiple class discount cards are also available for $10/class or less.
***NEW ONGOING CLASSES***
1:45 - 2:35pm Roots of Salsa: Workout & Body Movement (All Levels)
2:45 - 3:35pm Son Cubano: Partnering and Styling (Levels 3 and up)
3:45 - 4:35pm Cuban Salsa/Casino Partnering - NOT Rueda (Levels 3 and up)
Roots of Salsa: Workout & Body Movement: Dance to energetic Cuban music and get a great workout while focusing on footwork, torso, hip, and arm movements. We warm up with basic salsa footwork and body isolations and then move on to explore more complex rhythmic variations, stylistic embellishments and related dance styles. We explore some of the roots and relatives of Salsa in Rumba, Son, Mambo, Cha-cha- chá, Conga, Afro-Cuban folkloric dance and more. While this class will improve your social dancing, it is NOT a partner dancing class.
Son Cubano: Partnering and Styling: Son Cubano is the primary ancestor of Salsa, extremely elegant, simple in movements but sophisticated in rhythm and style. Many of the best Salsa dancers incorporate movements, turns, timing, and style from Son. Class is open to students who have completed Levels 1 and 2 (taught Monday and Friday nights - click here for a list of moves).
Cuban Salsa/Casino Partnering - NOT Rueda: Focus on one-on- one Cuban Salsa (a.k.a. Casino), practical leading and following techniques for smooth, fun, and dynamic social dancing. This is purposefully NOT a Rueda class -- while we will draw on some movements and turns used in the Rueda, we will focus on exercises for both leaders and followers unique to one-on- one Casino dancing. Class is open to students who have completed Levels 1 and 2 (taught Monday and Friday nights - click here for a list of moves).
Saturday Classes are offered on the same pass system as our Monday Oakland Classes (now also at The Working Body): $14 for a single class or $35 for a 4-class card. Cash or check only (no credit cards).

2:30 - 4:25pm Beginning/Intermediate Carnaval Rehearsal (begins March 5th)
4:30 - 6:25pm Advanced Carnaval Rehearsal (begins March 5th)
Salsa Workout and Body Movement (All levels)
In this highly energetic class we explore some of the roots and relatives of Salsa in Rumba, Son, Mambo, Cha-cha-chá, Conga, Afro-Cuban folkloric dance and more! Through isolations we gain strength, flexibility and articulate expression throughout the entire body, beginning with the core. We warm up with basic salsa footwork and move on to explore more complex rhythmic variations, stylistic embellishments and related dance styles building towards completing the class with a dynamic and fun choreography.
We are offering TWO Carnaval Rehearsals every Sunday, beginning March 5th through the parade on May 28th. From 2:30 to 4:30pm is our primary rehearsal, open to Beginning and Intermediate level dancers, and then from 4:30 to 6:30pm we will have an Advanced-level workshop. Both groups will be dancing to the same music, but the choreography in the second rehearsal will be slightly more complex with more of our signature rhythmic accents, more partner changing, more challenging vueltas, and new, more intricate configurations and patterns of movement. All dancers should attend the 2:30pm Beginning/Intermediate rehearsal unless given prior permission to attend the 4:30pm Advanced rehearsal.
This year is Rueda Con Ritmo's 8th annual SF Carnaval parade contingent, and we are particularly excited this year because for the first time we will be dancing to the LIVE MUSIC of John Calloway and the SF State Afro-Cuban Ensemble.
BIG NEWS! Yuneidi Bejerano, the lead female dancer of Companía All Stars in Santiago de Cuba will be visiting San Francisco for the first three weeks of March, contributing Carnaval choreography and leading RCR Carnaval rehearsals and other special workshops.
Dancing in the SF Carnaval parade, being refreshed and invigorated by fresh air and sunlight, surrounded by friends, performing fun and energetic choreography, inspired and motivated by great music, is a profoundly joyful experience.
The overall theme for SF Carnaval this year is "El Corazón de San Pancho." The related theme for the 2017 Rueda Con Ritmo contingent will be "Mi Barrio es mi Corazón." After SF Carnaval, you will have the option to dance in Carnaval in Cuba (Havana and other cities) on the Rueda Con Ritmo Summer Cuba Dance Study Trip (August 12 - 26).
If you have any questions, please contact us.

Private classes provide an ideal learning environment for dancers at any level. They can help a shy person develop confidence on the dance floor, or speed an experienced dancer's transition to the intermediate or advanced level. They are a great way to develop closeness with your significant other or enjoy the process of learning with a friend.
Everyone can benefit significantly from even a single hour with us – each person has their own specific issues that are sometimes missed or difficult to address in the context of a group class. With just one private class we can give you tools and techniques to really improve the aspects of your dance that are holding you back, enabling you to advance to a new level of skill and enjoyment.
Both Sidney and Ryan are expert in Cuban and Miami-style salsa, leading and following, and have hundreds of hours of experience teaching private lessons. Areas of focus can be partnering skills, turn patterns, musicality, body movement, or any combination of these.
Single lessons must be used within one month and packages of five must be used within three months of purchase (or receipt of gift certificate). No refunds. Lessons take place at our studio in SF. Please use the contact link to schedule your lessons.
